Patients who have noticed their teeth aren’t as white as they once were will oftentimes ask their dentist about what dental whitening treatment options are available to them. In Windsor Mill, Maryland, Dr. Jon Edmondson of Edmondson Family Dental Care can answer patients’ questions about dental whitening treatments. He works with each patient to identify which treatment best meets their needs. The following steps will guide you through the process.
Any time you schedule a visit with your dentist, you want to arrive with clean teeth and fresh breath. Take a few extra minutes when brushing your teeth to make sure you remove any debris that may be hiding in various nooks and crannies.
During a visit to your dentist, you may have to hold your mouth open for an extended time. Avoid eating and drinking before your visit to reduce your risk of getting sick during your procedure.
Before your dentist starts your dental whitening treatment, ask any questions they may have. Make sure you fully understand the procedure as well as any aftercare instructions your dentist may give you.
During your Zoom dental whitening treatment, your dentist will apply the Zoom! whitener gel to your teeth. After several minutes, the whitening gel and tray will be removed. Your dentist will check to see if your teeth have been whitened sufficiently. If you have tough stains on your teeth, you may have to give the whitening agent a few more minutes.
After the whitener gel and tray have been removed, a blue light will be used to finish the process. Curing the teeth ensures the level of whiteness is set and will last for several months. The entire application and curing process will only take 45 minutes to an hour to complete.
After your dental whitening treatment is finished, your dentist will examine your teeth to ensure no areas were missed. He will go over the aftercare instructions again to make sure you don’t have any questions before you leave. He may also recommend using take-home whitening kits, which will allow you to maintain your results for a much longer period of time.
